Greenside's Kitchen

At the Elliot Foundation, we are committed to equipping children with the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to succeed in life. Included within this commitment is the belief that all our children have the right to a good food education which equips them with the knowledge, skills and love of eating healthy, sustainable food that they will retain for life.

Welcome to Elliot’s Kitchen! Starting in September 2026, the Elliot Foundation is beginning the journey of bringing all of our catering in house across our London schools. Our new Executive Chef Educator, Zoé Chalton, will be working with Ms Webber and each school to develop their kitchens and incorporate them further into our Green Curriculum. This will be a phased approach starting with us at Greenside and Griffin Primary. The Trust will be using our school, which has operated a very successful in-house kitchen, as a model for excellence and we’ll be supported by our new partnership with Chefs in Schools. Through this approach we will be making lunch a real part of the learning experience. All our lunches will be in line with the new school food standards, reflect the seasons and be made from scratch by well-trained staff using the freshest ingredients from suppliers who support our mission.

Our Chef Jo and her team, alongside Zoe, will continue to cook delicious vegetarian lunches that are served in our Greenside lunchroom. Jo is a passionate cook who has worked in a variety of different food environments around the world. The lunches offer a choice of two hot vegetarian meals with salad, bread and a pudding. There is a greater emphasis on the communal aspect of eating, with more food being served at the table and the pupils are encouraged to serve each other. We are pleased to say that we are now a 100% school lunch community – we do not allow packed lunches at all here at Greenside.
The philosophy behind our move to vegetarian food is that we can provide an educational experience, showing the importance of sustainability, introducing the pupils to alternatives, as well as giving them a fully inclusive dining experience.
Our Greenside garden continues to thrive and, thanks to the help of our pupils and family volunteers, we are able to supply the kitchen with fresh vegetables throughout the year.
We have been featured on Jamie’s Meat Free Meals – this was a great way to celebrate the success of our Food Experience.
