Curriculum

Curriculum at Greenside
At Greenside, our curriculum is built on the foundation of the National Curriculum, with a distinctive twist that reflects our unique identity and values. While we deliver all statutory subjects with academic rigour, our approach goes far beyond compliance. We offer a rich, integrated learning experience designed to inspire curiosity, nurture individuality, and develop well-rounded, future-ready learners.

Inspiration Through Innovation
We believe that learning should be dynamic, meaningful and joyful. Our curriculum is driven by three core elements: food, film and fun. These are not add-ons; they are essential ingredients in how we engage children in deep learning, personal growth and creative expression. Through a diverse range of texts, cinematic experiences, hands-on projects and community engagement, our pupils develop confidence, independence and resilience.

The Green Curriculum at the Heart
Sustainability is embedded across our curriculum, not just as a subject but as a way of thinking and living. Our Green Curriculum empowers children to care for the planet, make environmentally conscious choices and understand their role as global citizens. Whether growing food in our school garden, learning outdoors or reducing waste through school initiatives, pupils develop environmental literacy and take real action to make a difference.

We promote learning experiences linked to food, nature and outdoor exploration in all areas of the curriculum. Sustainability isn’t an isolated topic; it is a mindset woven into everything we do.

English Through Books and Film
Our English curriculum is enriched by a deep engagement with literature and film. We use high-quality texts and cinematic storytelling to spark imagination, build vocabulary and encourage critical thinking. This interdisciplinary approach helps pupils to explore different perspectives, develop empathy and express their ideas with clarity and creativity, both in writing and through oracy.

Technology for Tomorrow
As an Apple Distinguished School, we are proud to lead the way in digital learning. Technology at Greenside is not just a tool. It is a mindset. Pupils use digital devices across the curriculum to collaborate, problem-solve and showcase their learning in innovative ways. We also run our own Apple podcast, which pupils help to plan, record and edit. This not only builds technical skills but also develops their confidence, communication and understanding of media. These are skills we believe are essential for the world they are growing up in.

Our use of technology prepares children for the digital world while promoting creativity, responsibility and adaptability.

A Balanced Curriculum
We take a combined approach to curriculum design, drawing on a range of carefully chosen schemes and pedagogical approaches to support, deepen and enrich learning. These do not lead our curriculum but are used thoughtfully to support high-quality planning and delivery. All curriculum decisions are made with our cohort and demographic in mind, ensuring that content is relevant, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our pupils.
